Ghettos

There once was a place

Called the Warsaw Ghetto,

Where people were violently

Herded, encircled, kept

Without consideration

For human decency.

There now is a place

Called Gaza,

Where those once held

Do the same,

People violently

Herded, encircled, kept

Without consideration

For human decency.

In both places

The world gave excuses,

Pandered ridiculous reasons

For the abuse,

Is Paulo Freire’s warning

A reality,

Is the world like then

Still obtuse?
