Red Shopping Cart

A red shopping cart,

Four men and a woman

Homeless,

Picking up things

As they stroll

Down the street,

The red shopping cart

Clicking and squeaking,

No talking

Just walking, stooping

And picking,

Passing an almost done

Cigarette butt around,

I’ve seen that

Red Shopping Cart

Parked like a family sedan

In a suburban driveway,

On an empty lot

Across from McDonald’s

Where the tall grass

Hides the plastic and

Cardboard tied to

The chain link fence.
