Somewhere
Near A Desert
Are you voting Charlie?
I think so Amanda,
I’ve been reading emails and
Watching news from home.
Me too Charlie, me too.
Confusing... isn’t it Amanda?
What do you mean?
Are we not here to help
People in their fight for
The right to be heard, to vote,
To gain democracy?
Why do Harper and the Conservatives
Say an election is unnecessary,
Too expensive, a danger to
The Canadian economy,
When is exercising democracy a danger?
Yeah Charlie, only if you’re a leader
Like the ones out here!
We’re trying to get factions to debate,
Discuss, form coalitions, exercise democracy,
Harper calls it evil, dangerous!
Remember the G20 in Toronto?
Masked, unidentifiable military types
Opening fire on young people sitting
In the street, holding hands, singing
Oh Canada!
One of the largest mass arrests in our history!
We’d be court marshalled if we did that here!
Maybe it was a trial run, maybe that’s why
They want thousands of additional prison cells!
Yes Amanda, members and confidants, a biker
Chick, a hooker, criminal charges, we’d be
Court marshalled if we did that!
Do you think Harper will get a majority?
I don’t know Charlie. Canadians are an apathetic bunch,
We do their killing and dying for them,
Most of them can’t be bothered to pay attention,
They make decisions based on edited video clips and sound bites.
We should be at home protecting our own democracy,
Not out here somewhere near a desert.
