War

So we line up one day

A year to remember,

Dab a tear and tell

Our kids about

The heroes.

And we remember.

Remember what?

How badly we

Treat our soldiers

When they return?

The lack of medical,

Pensions, rehabilitation?

Remember what?

How many people

We killed,

Mothers, children,

Grandparents, bombed

Huddling under makeshift

Shelters?

Remember what?

That weapons, arms,

Things of war are

Growth industries?

Remember what?

That we still let

Our leaders send our

Children to die,

Protecting drug war

Lords in Afghanistan?

Remember what?

That most wars were

Started by pompous

Lying political chest

Thumpers squabbling

Over Money, oil, power?

Remember what?

That it makes us feel better

To stand to attention

Two minutes a year

And salute our stupidity?
