Why does cry wolf echo
Around the US President
And the leaders stepping
Behind him onto the stage,
Why is the script so similar
To one we’ve heard so
Many times before,
Like Bush and Blair and
Wannabees pipsqueeking
And applauding words
That led us all to war,
Why do the old ghosts
Of Tonkin and places, the
New of New York, Iraq and
Elsewhere dart back and
Forth across the floor,
Why do these intelligent
Men appear to dance like
Mere marionettes, bobbing
On the end of invisible
Strings seemingly worked
By unknown devilish fingers.
